VAT and Tax SME

Are you passionate about taxes and international commerce? Do you have a knack for navigating complex tax regulations with ease? Our global partner is a strategic technology and payment services company, the world's leading provider of tax-free shopping solutions. We are now looking for a VAT & Tax SME to join their Bratislava office. The VAT & Tax SME will oversee VAT reporting, corporate tax calculations, and accruals, while also maintaining a knowledge base and providing training to GL accountants. To fill this position, long-term professional experience in the field of corporate taxation is essential. The position is located in Bratislava, however, weekly visits to the Vienna office will be required to facilitate an incoming transition. 


Main responsibilities:
  • Execute and oversee various accounting activities, including VAT reporting, reclassifications, corporate tax computations, and accruals.
  • Establish and manage a comprehensive VAT and tax reporting calendar to ensure timely compliance.
  • Monitor and coordinate tax reviews to ensure accuracy and adherence to regulations.
  • Document the processes for current & deferred tax calculations and VAT procedures per entity for transparency and audit readiness.
  • Stay updated on local legal changes and provide training to the GL and Reporting team as necessary.
  • Conduct SOX controls and suggest enhancements to manual control processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Manage inquiries related to VAT and Tax during statutory audits in collaboration with the Group Tax Director.
  • Collaborate closely with the Group Tax Manager on all tax-related matters and initiatives.


Required skills:
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting.
  • Possess a minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience in VAT and Tax.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with SOX controls, with experience in an international SOX and IFRS accounting environment.
  • Possess a good understanding of IFRS accounting transactions and VAT and Tax principles and accounting transactions.
  • Exhibit proficiency in MS-Office applications, particularly Excel, and have experience working with accounting software.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Showcase outstanding coordination skills.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to foster a positive learning environment and support and train junior team members.
  • Prioritize accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Show flexibility, resilience, and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills, both within and outside of the finance department.
